They don't need to cut vital support for disabled people if they tax extreme wealth more. Search your postcode and ask your MP to take action📩
In a few weeks, Members of Parliament will vote on over £5 billion in cuts to our social security system, immediately impacting many people living with disabilities.
The Government’s decision to punish the most marginalised to save money is not only morally indefensible, but unnecessary. Particularly so when the vast wealth of the super rich remains untouched.
These cuts will be hugely damaging. Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is claimed by some of the most marginalised people in our country, some of whom are unable to work due to chronic health problems.
PIP is a crucial resource that allows disabled people to maintain independence, manage their healthcare needs, and participate fully in society. Slashing PIP risks exacerbating poverty, increasing isolation, and seriously damaging people’s health and wellbeing and likely leads to more unnecessary deaths.
There is a clear alternative. Just ten tax reforms that would tax wealth more and close loopholes would raise £60bn in a single year.
That’s more than ten times what this government is planning to cut from disability support.
This money could strengthen the social safety net, and put tens of billions into our hospitals, schools, housing and communities.
We have built this easy to use tool where you can send an email to your MP calling on them to tax the super rich instead of cutting support for the most marginalised. Together we can make them listen.
